Global law firm White & Case LLP and the International Law Students Association (ILSA) announced today that a team of law students from National Law School of India University (NLSIU) won the 2013 White & Case World Championship at the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Winning team members were Raag Yadava, Geetha Hariharan, Shreya Jain and Akshaya Ramadurai. The last time NLSIU won the Jessup World Cup was in 1999.

First-Ever Win for a Russian Team, Rare Win by Non-Native English Speaking Team
Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that a team of law students from Moscow State University won the 2012 White & Case Jessup Cup as part of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The winning team members were Grigory Vaypan, Elena Manasyan, Nataliya Sekretareva, Aleksandra Ivlieva and Olga Nasonova.

Women’s rights singled out as biggest beneficiary of international law in global survey conducted by International Law Students Association and White & Case
Three out of four law students participating in a global survey believe the role of international law is growing stronger worldwide, with nearly half saying that women's rights has been the main beneficiary. According to the results of the poll, 44.6 percent of respondents say that international law supports women's right to a "great extent," while another 43.6 percent say it does to "some extent."

Global law firm White & Case LLP announced today that a team of law students from the University of Sydney (Australia) won the 2011 White & Case Jessup Cup as part of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. Winning team members were Patrick Bateman, Christopher Beshara, Glenn Kembrey, Chelsea Tabart and Patrick Wall. It is the second year in a row that a team from Australia has won the global competition.

The University of Sydney (Australia) won the White & Case Jessup Cup after facing Columbia University (US) in the World Championship Round. Jennifer Lim, from Columbia University, received the Best Oralist Award. Judge Thomas Buergenthal (former judge at the International Court of Justice), Claudio Grossman (Chair of the UN Committee against Torture and Dean at American University Washington College of Law) and Mark Pieth (Chair of the OECD Working Group on Bribery in International Business Transactions) sat on the Final Bench.

While the judges deliberated, Carolyn Lamm, partner in the White & Case Washington, DC office and former Jessup competitor, congratulated all teams on participating in the competition and discussed the skills necessary to practice international law.

Congratulations to the Jessup team from Australian National University (Australia), winner of the 2010 White & Case Jessup Cup. The runner-up was the team from Columbia Law School (US).

The 2010 White & Case International Rounds began on Sunday, 21 March, and culminated with the World Championship Round on 27 March. With 127 Jessup teams from 76 countries, these were the largest International Rounds in the 51-year Jessup history.

With 127 teams competing from 76 countries, the competition marked the largest International Rounds in the 51-year history of the Jessup.

Global Arbitration Review

White & Case has succeeded Shearman & Sterling as the sponsor of the international rounds of the Jessup moot.

The competition will now be known as the White & Case Jessup Cup. White & Case was already the sponsor of nine national rounds of the competition - in Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Georgia, Poland, Russia, South Africa and the UK - and a US regional version of the competition in Washington, DC.

Firm Steps Up as International Rounds Sponsor; Winners to Receive White & Case Jessup Cup

Global law firm White & Case LLP and the International Law Students Association (ILSA) today announced the expansion of its sponsorship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition. The expanded sponsorship, which runs through 2012, now includes the 2010 White & Case International Rounds and the White & Case Jessup Cup. The Firm will continue to be an ILSA Global Partner, sponsoring national Jessup competitions and providing other material support.

On February 28, 2009 the national round of the Jessup Moot Court Competition took place at the premises of the Czech Supreme Administrative Court in Brno. This student competition simulates judicial proceedings involving two fictional states taking place before the, also mock, International Court of Justice in The Hague. The Jessup Moot Court Competition is the most important competition in the field of international public law, and this year, it celebrated its 50th anniversary.

The Czech national round was organized under the auspices of the law firm White & Case, which is the global partner of the International Law Student Association (ILSA), the organizer of the competition.

The well-known Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition opened in Xiamen yesterday for Chinese Round, the Judges are qualified and high-level, some of the Judges comes from United States Federal Court.

Now, it is the seventh year for China to hold such competition, named the Seventh Chinese National Round for Jessup International Law Moot Court. Top four teams will be known tomorrow, which will represent China to go to Washington D.C. in International Round.

The Jessup UK Mooting Competition, sponsored by White & Case, is being held this weekend with 20 teams taking part in front of a bench that includes Lord Bingham of Cornhill.

Now in its 50th anniversary year, the Jessup is the world's largest annual moot court competition, with more than 2,000 law students from nearly 90 countries. The prize for the winners is a place in the international rounds of the Jessup World Championships in Washington on March 22 to 28.

The Seventh Chinese National Round for Jessup International Law Moot Court is opening in Xiamen University this morning. 29 Teams form law schools of Renmin University of China, Peking University, Fudan Univeristy and other famous universities joined this moot court competition.

Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court was founded by American International Law Student Association in 1959. This year is the 50th anniversary of Jessup. Jessup is now the world's largest moot court competition, with participants from over 500 law schools in more than 70 countries.

The American Lawyer featured an article on the Philip C. Jessup International Moot Court Competition and what it has done to promote the "rule of law" throughout the world.  The Jessup started as a small intramural competition at Harvard University and has grown into the world’s largest moot court competition, with more than 500 teams from 80 countries.  As Global Sponsor of the Jessup, White & Case sponsors the national round in nine countries and brings teams from ten developing countries to the final round in Washington, DC.

Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition.  Students from 13 different universities came to Canberra to compete at the Australian National University, and, according to the Canberra Times, argued a hypothetical case regarding a military commission created after a terrorist attack.  The students presented their case to a panel of legal academics and practitioners overseen by High Court judge Susan Kiefel.

Russia Today featured an article on the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition and how it is helping Russian legal students learn about international law.  White & Case started the Russian regional portion of the global competition in 2002 with just 14 teams of students.  It is now the second-largest after just five years, with 31 teams from law schools and universities competing against each other.  White & Case has been the sole sponsor of the Russian National Competition since its inception  – including paying for all materials, meals and providing for airfare and accommodations for the winning teams who compete in the global final competition in Washington, DC.

White & Case LLC, Moscow today announced that it will sponsor the Second Annual Russian National Championship of the Philip C. Jessup International Law Moot Court Competition which will take place on Saturday, February 15, 2003. The competition is a public international law advocacy competition in which teams of law students present oral and written pleadings before a simulated International Court of Justice.
